What is heat radiation?
Heat radiation is radiation generated by the thermal motion of charged particles in matter. All matter with a temperature greater than absolute zero (−459.67°) emits heat radiation. The process is that bodies with a temperature above absolute zero have atoms or molecules with kinetic energies which are changing, and when the atoms have a certain amount of energy, they can break away and result in the atoms transfering from one body to the other, therefore transferring heat.
What are emission and absorption?
Heat emission is where heat is produced by an object.
Heat absorbtion is (you guessed it) where heat is absorbed by an object.
When do objects emit or absorb radiation?
Objects always emit heat, but sometimes more than other objects depending on the colour and size of the object.
What makes a good emitter or absorber of heat?
object appears black because it absorbs all light, thus meaning it absorbs all the heat radiation aswell.
Using exactly the same principle, the matt black object (black body) will emit radiant energy simply because it is incapable of impeding its transmission.
How do solar panels make use of heat radiation?
Solar water heating systems use free heat from the sun to warm domestic hot water. A conventional boiler or immersion heater can be used to make the water hotter, or to provide hot water when solar energy is unavailable.They absorb the heat when the sun is out and simply heat the water.
